When post-editing (correcting machine translated output by a human translator), both the client and the post-editor should benefit from the use of machine translated output. However, different aspects have to be considered in the post-editing process, e.g. what decisions have to be made at which stage in the post-editing process, which risks must clients and post-editors consider, what competencies do post-editors need, and how are the job perspectives and requirements for translators and post-editors changing? These questions will be addressed and discussed in this talk. .

In this presentation, Hilde van Loon, head of the Dutch language division of the European Commission, will explain the inner workings of the European Commission tenders for translation work. She will explain how, as a group of translators, you can register for a tender without a specific legal form and become a Commission contractor. But you can also register as a subcontractor, without commercial risk, with European Commission contractors. The following questions will also be answered: What volumes are involved in the language combinations EN->NL and FR->NL? What are the characteristics and benefits of the new tendering system? What is expected of contractors? How are contractors selected? And what are the minimum registration requirements
